Gosport paedophile shows no remorse after 10-year sentence

A PAEDOPHILE who sexually abused three young girls has been jailed for 10 years.

For years after carrying out the offences John Stone thought he had got away with it.

But after one of his victims went to the police the extent of his horrific past was uncovered.

Despite being jailed Stone, 50, still denies abusing the girls and insists he has done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile his victims are only now able to start piecing their lives back together after living with the secret for so long.

Detective Constable Pete Lavin, of Gosport CID, said: ‘John Stone hasn’t shown any remorse.

‘He is still denying that he has committed these offences.

‘For a number of years he felt that he had got away with these crimes.’

Stone, of Braemer Road, Gosport, was found guilty of one count of rape and five of indecent assault after a six-day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

His victims were all under the age of 14 and the offences took place in Gosport between 1987 and 1995.

Unemployed Stone was arrested in 2009 when one of the women told her partner, who called the police.

As the police investigation went on detectives uncovered two more victims.

All three women, who are now in their 30s, had to face Stone across the courtroom as they told the jury about what they had been through.

Det Con Lavin said: ‘I would like to say how courageous the victims have been in coming forward.

‘Albeit there was a long delay since the offences they showed courage and strength at the trial. They gave evidence in very difficult circumstances.’

On one occasion Stone plied a young girl with alcohol before raping her.

Det Con Lavin said: ‘The three women are extremely relieved that justice has been done. They have lived with this and carried around these feelings for a number of years. They are relieved to have got this off their chest so that they can finally move on with their lives.’
