Ramsbury professor is jailed for supplying child porn pictures
Well-respected university profession Robert Grimshaw who had a worldwide reputation in the engineering world woke up in jail this morning at the start of a two-year sentence for being part of a paedophile ring.
Grimshaw, 58, from Ramsbury tried to avoid details of his crime becoming public following his arrest by changing his name to Joseph Mills and giving a new address at Stratton St Margaret.
But now his neighbours in Newtown in Ramsbury know that the quiet and unassuming man who had little to do with them had amassed one of the biggest collections of child pornography ever discovered by police in the West.
Grimshaw, who is married with one child, appeared for sentence at Salisbury Crown Court yesterday.
Judge Michael Dixon jailed him for two years and his name will be on the sex offenders’ register for the next seven years.
Grimshaw admitted 16 specimen charges of making, possessing and distributing indecent photographs of children.
Police found a hoard of more than 20,000 pornographic pictures of children, some engaged in sexual activity with adults, neatly filed on Grimshaw’s home computer after a tip off from Surrey police.
Three quarters of the images on Grimshaw’s PC involved children under 13, some said Judge Dixon, mere babes in arms.
Grimshaw was impassive as the judge told him that his actions had made him a pariah for life and cost him his professional, family and social life.
Grimshaw was given a reduced sentence because he co-operated with police and entered an early guilt plea to all the charges
