Accountant fined over child porn

A County Antrim accountant who admitted downloading indecent photographs of children from the internet has been given a conditional discharge and fined £250.

David Hunter, 40, from Kings Court, Templepatrick, was also ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.

Police were alerted in July 2001, after a work colleague in Hunter’s accountancy partnership in Ballyclare saw indecent images on a computer screen, Belfast Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday.

The computer was seized along with his lap top. Together they contained 128 images of children and 11 involved sexually explicit images.

‘Family is loving’

A defence solicitor said it was during a period of stress in his work partnership that Hunter had “strayed into areas he should not”.

The solicitor said the matter had been hanging over Hunter for two years and every day had been a dread when he thought about what he had done to his family.

“The only amelioration is that the family is together and loving and caring for one another,” said the solicitor.

Resident Magistrate Desmond Perry said he wondered why a man in Hunter’s position would indulge in “what could only be described as a perversion”.

He warned Hunter that any repetition would result in him going to jail.
