A CATHOLIC priest who used to teach at one of Britain’s leading schools was jailed today for downloading 12,000 pornographic images of children from the internet.
Desmond O’Keefe, 39, formerly of Downside Abbey, Stratton-on-the-Fosse, Radstock in Somerset, also made two indecent pseudo-photographs of schoolboys at the Abbey when he was a teacher.
O’Keefe had a “secret fixation” and even “an addiction” for child pornography, Bristol Crown Court was told.
Judge John Foley sentenced O’Keefe to 18 months in prison, saying there was a “large amount of very strong material indeed”.
At an earlier hearing, O’Keefe pleaded guilty of 16 counts of making indecent photographs of children and two of making indecent pseudo-photographs of children. The dates of the offences date from 1997 to 2004.
