Tsunami child porn man sentenced

A man who told his family he was in Thailand when he was actually in prison has been sentenced for a string of child pornography offences.

Mark Doogue’s family feared he was missing on Phuket island after the tsunami struck on Boxing Day.

When they made an appeal to find him, police said he was in UK custody after admitting owning 137 pornographic images and video clips of children.

On Friday, Doogue, 47, of Salford, was given a two-year rehabilitation order.

Doogue, who has two adult sons, also admitted failing to surrender to bail on 1 December and was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.

‘Exploitation and degradation’

The pictures and videos involved children aged from eight to their early teens.

Bolton Crown Court judge Charles Bloom, sitting in Bury, told him he was not going to jail because he had already served more than two months in custody awaiting sentence.
