Secret three-year affair with sex education teacher left schoolgirl so tired friends thought she was on drugs

A sex education teacher who had a four-year affair with a 15-year-old schoolgirl was today jailed for four years.

David Robinson, 41, slept with the teenager after she collapsed drunk in his bathroom during a party in 2006.

He bragged about the incident to friends saying he enjoyed ‘great sex’ with the girl and even tried to persuade her to take part in threesomes with other under-age girls.

The pair embarked on a three-year relationship while she studied her GCSEs and A-levels.

She sneaked around behind her mother’s back to pursue the affair and was sometimes so tired friends thought she was taking drugs.

But the teenager, who is now 19, reported Robinson to the police when the relationship ended in August last year.

Divorced father-of-two Robinson was found guilty of five counts of sexual activity with a child after a trial at Hereford Crown Court in July.

Judge Pearce Higgins today told Robinson he had ‘abused his position” as he jailed him for four years at Worcester Crown Court.

Judge Higgins said: ”Mr Robinson had befriended the victim in lessons and gained her trust and admiration. He formed a sexual attraction to her.

”The relationship was an abuse of his position by Mr Robinson. This was clearly a breach of trust.

‘The relationship was concealed from everybody else. In the course of a police investigation the victim denied any sexual activity.

‘It is my judgement that had Mr Robinson been genuinely concerned for the girl’s welfare he would not have acted as he did.

‘In his words, she provided to him what he described to a friend as “great sex”.’

‘This hasn’t ruined the teenager’s life but it has set her back considerably. It has caused enormous pain to her widowed mother.

‘The aggravating features are the abuse of position and the length of the relationship.

‘The law exists to deter older men from taking advantage of young girls. Mr Robinson still does not appreciate that he has done anything wrong.’

The court heard how Robinson groomed the youngster while they played badminton together at a Chase School, in Malvern, Worcestershire.

She tearfully told the court how he had slapped her on the bottom and told her she was ‘beautiful’ just feet away from other teachers and pupils.

The relationship started when Robinson bought the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and her friends alcohol at a pub before he invited them back to his house on November 25, 2006.

It was there that he seduced her. The teenager eventually moved in with Robinson when she was 16. He supplied her with alcohol and lavished her with gifts including a holiday to Spain and a camping trip in Wales.

They had matching tattoos on their arms of a barcode with the numbers 25 11 06 – the date of  the first time they had sex.

Other numbers on the tattoo included 3 24 7 365 which was code for ”I love you 24 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year’ when they chatted together on MSN.

But the girl later feared Robinson, who earned £45,000 a year teaching Social Sciences and Sex Education, would force her into prostitution when he said that he wanted to start an escort agency.

She eventually dumped him and reported him to police.

In court, the teenager described how her teacher had refused to take no for an answer and bombarded her with up to 15 text messages a day begging her to take him back.

She said: ‘David Robinson manipulated and controlled me. He used me for sex.

‘It was totally inappropriate for somebody in his position to take advantage of a 15-year-old girl. He constantly wanted sex. He always used sexual innuendo and touched me.

‘All he thought about was sex. He used to talk about having threesomes with other girls but that never happened.

‘I arrived at his David Robinson’s house at about one in the morning. We had lots of sex. I would fall asleep for an hour then sneak home.’

Christina Montgomery, defending, said: ‘The girl was very much complicit in concealing the relationship in the early stages and that included lying to her mother with whom she had a ferocious battles to ensure the relationship was preserved.

Robinson has already served 153 days remanded in custody which will be taken off the sentence. He must also sign the sexual offenders register.

The victim and her mother refused to comment as they left court.
