A man has been jailed for eight years for the rape of a teenage girl in 2004.
Paul Clare, 43, from Little Hallingbury, Essex, attacked the 16-year-old as she walked home from a club in Braintree on 20 November, 2004.
He was arrested that night and later charged. His first trial in 2005 was stopped when he became ill but he was found guilty at a trial in March.
Clare, who was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court, will be put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Det Supt Colin Steele, who headed the investigation, said: “The past two years have been a traumatic time for the young woman attacked by Clare and I am pleased that the sentence that has been passed down reflects the severity of the crime that he committed.
“The victim has had to give evidence in court twice and has shown admirable strength and resilience.
“She can at least now spend time recovering with her family knowing Clare is safely locked up.”
