Three years for unlawful sex

Burnt Oak man was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawful sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Patrick Dempsey, of Blundell Road, broke down in tears as the jury unanimously found him not guilty on six counts of rape, two counts of assault and one of indecency with a child, over a five-year period.

But he was given three consecutive 12-month prison sentences for having unlawful intercourse with the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons. He also pleaded guilty to battery and will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Sentencing at Harrow Crown Court, Judge Roger Sanders said: “You have pleaded guilty to three instances of having unlawful sexual intercourse. You being 34 years of age and in a position of trust, and she being only 15. The law may have broad shoulders when it comes to dealing with youngsters of a similar age indulging in youthful experimentation, but when it comes to a man of your age, your experience and your position, only a custodial sentence can be considered.”

The court heard last week that Dempsey took the girl to secluded spots around the borough, such as Copthall Stadium and Partingdale Lane, in Mill Hill, and had sex with her outside his van.
