 jailed for child abuse

A man from Greater Manchester who abused eight children over 30 years has been jailed for 14 years.

George Hunt, 56, of Alexander Avenue, Hyde, had earlier pleaded guilty to 12 offences committed between January 1979 and October 2010.

The victims, seven girls and one boy, were aged from five to 17.

Police paid tribute to the bravery of the victims after the investigation was started when one reported Hunt last May.

Det Con Karen Evans said: “It is a testament to their courage that they have come forward and we are now in a position where Hunt will be locked away for the foreseeable future.

“Hunt repeatedly abused the trust of innocent children over the course of 30 years.”
