Mother helps catch Facebook paedophile

A BRAVE mother has spoken of how she snared a paedophile who threatened to rape and kill girls as young as 12.

Christian Bland hounded at least 19 girls from around south Bucks and sent them sexually explicit messages and threats through Facebook.

Depraved Bland, of Carrington Avenue, Flackwell Heath, was caught after the mother kept him talking on the social networking site for an hour while the police arrived.

He sent her horrific messages believing he was speaking to her 14-year-old daughter – even sending her a video of a woman being raped, along with the chilling message the same thing would happen to her if she didn’t do what he wanted.

The mother, who lives in Bucks, said: “If I hadn’t done anything I don’t know what would have happened.

“It was horrendous what he was saying to these girls, knowing they were children. The things he was saying were absolutely disgusting. I’m really pleased I did what I did.”

Bland – who was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and has been barred from ever working with children again – used a fake profile to contact the girls, the youngest of whom was just 12 years old.

The mother, who can’t be named for legal reasons, said Bland threatened to follow her daughter home from school and said he would kill the girls he was sending messages to.

She said: “He sent a link to me and said ‘This is what’s going to happen’. I clicked on it and it was of a young girl being raped by two men. It sent shivers up my spine.

“He was threatening to kill them if they didn’t take photos of themselves in positions he wanted them to or if they didn’t send him a certain amount of photos.

“He’s a very malicious, nasty man. He threatened to kill every single one of the girls if they didn’t comply with what he said.”

The woman printed off the Facebook conversation she had with Bland and gave it to police, who tracked his IP address through her laptop.

When the case first came to court four girls had come forward to give evidence. By the time he was sentenced on Wednesday that figure was up to 19, but the mother fears many more could have been involved.

She said: “He was friends with 203 girls under the age of 16 and a lot went to my daughter’s school.”

He pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity, causing or inciting a female child to engage in sexual activity, causing or inciting a child aged 13-17 to engage in prostitution or pornography, and making indecent photos.

The final charge related to extreme pornography which was found on his home computer.

He will be eligible for parole in 18 months’ time, but he was given an indeterminate prison sentence by Aylesbury Crown Court Judge Francis Sheridan for the public’s protection.

The mother said: “I don’t think it was enough. The fact he was threatening them, that’s what makes me think he’s not going to change.”
