Paedophile who escaped justice for over a decade is found guilty

A father of one is facing jail for raping a ten-year-old girl almost 13 years ago.

Richard Dickens, 28, was found guilty of four counts of rape and four of indecent assault for offences committed against the girl when he lived in Corby, Northamptonshire in 1994.

Dickens, who now lives in Blackbird Road, Potton denied all charges but the victim, who is now 23, told Northampton Crown Court this week that she was raped between 20 to 30 times when she was aged about 10.

On one occasion a relative walked into the bedroom moments after an incident and said she saw the pair naked from the waist down and in close contact, however Dickens said they had been playing a game of show-and-tell and they had not been touching each other.

The relative decided not to tell the victim’s mother at the time but she did tell Dickens’ mother, Anne Jordan.

Mrs Jordan said: “There would have been no time when Richard and the victim were alone together. I wouldn’t come to court to lie for him.” The jury was told the abuse was reported to police in 2004, after the victim decided she did not want Dickens to get away with it.
