Ex-serviceman jailed for raping teenager

A RETIRED air force serviceman has been jailed for raping and abusing a teenage girl.

Alan William Pidd, of east Hull, was convicted of rape and sexual abuse by a jury at Hull Crown Court.

The 59-year-old had admitted having sex with the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

However, he claimed this only happened after the girl turned 16 and she had given her consent.

The jury dismissed his version of events and convicted him of two counts of sexual abuse relating to when the girl was 15 and a count of rape when she was 16.

However, he was acquitted of another four counts of sexual abuse with the same girl.

The court heard the girl reported the abuse in March this year after she was raped by Pidd.

Throughout the trial he claimed the girl instigated the incidents and “lured” him.

He said: “I thought after the first time this was not going to stop until she wanted it to stop.

“I believe she was using me, trying to lure me.”

The court heard Pidd, who served with the RAF from 1969 until 1991, had no previous convictions.

Judge John Swanson sentenced him to 11 years in prison for the offences.

He said: “The jury found that there was no consent.”

Pidd was also ordered to sign on the sex offenders’ register for life and was disqualified from working with children.

A sexual offences prevention order was also made, which stops him from having any contact with his victim.
