Crossing patrol man who had 5,500 child porn images and 94 film clips is jailed

A SCHOOL crossing patrol man who became “addicted” to child porn has been jailed after being caught with 5,500 indecent images of young girls.

Richard Anthony Porter, 59, was caught as part of a national police operation targeting paedophiles viewing child porn.

Detectives issued a search warrant for his home after receiving information that he had used his credit card to view websites containing indecent images and movies of children.

Porter, of Eske Lane, Tickton, near Beverley, was caught with 5,500 indecent images of children as young as 4 and 94 movie clips.

More than 3,000 images were at the lowest indecency level and 870 images and 56 movie clips were at the worst levels.

The images, contained on 5 computer hard drives, were of children aged 4 to 15 and the majority of them were of young girls under 10.

At the time of the offence, Porter was working as a relief school crossing patrol man in the East Riding.

Prosecutor Wendy Foster said: “There is no suggestion his offending was linked to his work.”

His barrister Ian Phillip said: “He knows the court has very little sympathy and is crushed by his behaviour.

“He doesn’t dispute he did pay for subscription to a site to allow him to look at these images. He can only describe his behaviour there after as something akin to addiction.”

The Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding Judge Michael Mettyear, sitting at Hull Crown Court, has sentenced Porter to eight months imprisonment.

Porter, who is also a beekeeper, has been ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

He has also been given a sexual offences prevention order for five years, banning him from unsupervised contact with children and from living with children.

Porter had pleaded guilty at Beverley Magistrates’ Court to 16 counts of making indecent images of children.

A spokesman for East Riding Council said: “We are aware of this case. He no longer works for this authority.”
