27-year-old Tilehurst man Tyrone Barker has been jailed for 14 years for sexually abusing a young boy over a 10 year period starting when his victim was just eight-years-old.
Barker, of Maiwand Gardens, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court today after a two-week trial. He was found guilty of 11 counts of rape, one count of indecency with a child and one count of indecent assault in relation to incidents between 2001 and 2011.
Barker was arrested in April after the victim went to police.
Det Sgt Sarah-Jayne Beedall, the investigating officer in the case, said: “Tyrone Barker is a controlling and dangerous individual who preyed on his victim repeatedly over a period of 10 years.
“Despite being subjected to a horrifying catalogue of sexual offences, the victim has shown great bravery and dignity not only in coming forward to report the crimes, but throughout the police investigation and trial.
“I commend him for his ongoing courage and I hope the fact he has found the strength to come forward to report these incidents, which started when he was just eight years old, will inspire other victims of sexual abuse to speak out.”
