Paedophile fined

Sex-offender John Frank Hattam, 40, of South Street, Keighley, has been fined £60 with £40 costs for failing to notify police of a change of address.

He is being allowed to pay in instalments of £5 per week after appearing before Bingley magistrates last week accused under section 3 (1) (A) of the Sex Offenders Act 1997.

The new law says all convicted sex offenders, especially paedophiles, must tell police where they are living orface six months in prison. A directory lists offenders and gives details of their address, age and convictions.

After being released from prison following a nine-month sentence for indecent asault on girls under 16, Hattam gave an address at Drewry Road, Keighley. But having not been seen there for some time and failing to notify police of a change in his home address within 14 days of his release from prison he was summonsed to appear before Bingley magistrates in April. He failed to turn up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
