Car park child porn pervert dodges jail

A sex offender who sat naked in his car in a busy leisure centre car park masterbating while looking at children has dodged jail.

Nick Watts, 46, from Waddon Road, Croydon, was seen playing with himself in the Westcroft Centre car par on June 2 last year by a highly-concerned parent.

Police arrested him and found around 22,000 indecent images of children, of various levels of seriousness, on his computer when his home was searched.

At Croydon Crown Court on Tuesday, the unemployed bachelor was handed a 10-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting a total of 23 charges.

Judge Nicholas Ainley said: “One has to feel for the poor children who are dragged into this disgusting business which people like you are helping.

“I am more concerned with stopping you from the exploiting of young children. With a sentence of immediate imprisonment, you would soon be out and doing it again.”

Shekinah Anson, prosecuting, said Watts was in the car park of Westcroft sports centre in Carshalton on June 2 last year. The place was busy at the time, with parents and their children.

She said: “He was seen in the driver’s seat. He was exposing the left side of his rear and he was wearing nothing.”

Ailimarie Arunachalam, defending, told the court said her client had always been interested in adult pornography but he came across some child porn and he turned his attention to that.

She said: “He never shared it with anyone. It was always for his own personal use. Since his arrest, he has been prescribed anti-depressants.”

In addition to the suspended sentence, he was given a three-year supervision order and will have to attend a sex offenders programme.

Watts pleaded guilty to 22 counts of possession of indecent images and one of outraging public decency.
