Jail for sex attacker

A MAN who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl has been sentenced.

Paul Shiel, aged 42, who has recently been living in Lyme Street, Haydock, admitted one count of sexual assault at an earlier hearing.

He has now been jailed for 22 months in prison at Bolton Crown Court.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and made subject of a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) for seven years.

The girl was at a house in Westhoughton, on Saturday April 16, when Shiel made various lewd remarks towards her before getting her alone in his bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her.

The girl later told a teacher who called police and Shiel was arrested and subsequently charged.

Detective Constable Adam Gleave, of Bolton CID, said: “Shiel spent the evening making lewd and inappropriate comments towards the girl before sexually assaulting her the moment he got her on her own.

“His behaviour that night was appalling and the victim has been left understandably upset at what happened.

“I hope the fact he has been brought to justice is of some comfort to her and her family.”
