Newcastle child molester is finally snared

A PAEDOPHILE who abused very young children for more than three decades has been jailed for nine years.

Thomas White, 64, had sexually abused youngsters as long ago as 1975 but had managed to evade justice.

But when he committed sex acts with two young girls earlier this year, his seedy history came to light.

Now White has been sentenced to nine years in prison at Newcastle Crown Court after he admitted a series of sex offences.

Recorder Alastair MacDonald QC told him: “You never considered the consequences of your actions for your victims.

“This was planned patterns of behaviour and you acted to satisfy your own sexual needs. You manipulated situations to your own advantage and the victims’ families have been devastated by what occurred.

“A substantial sentence will have to be imposed.

“These were repeated offences over a great period of time.”

White, of Coniston Close, Newburn, Newcastle, who also lived in Heaton, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child, indecent assault and attempted indecent assault. He had been arrested in June after allegations surfaced that he had sexually abused two girls under the age of six.

After he was charged with those offences, two women came forward to say he had done similar things to them in the 1970s and 1990s when they were aged five and nine.

One of the historic victims told the court the offences had had a devastating effect on her.

She said: “I have bottled this up for years.

“This has affected me greatly and I’ve never really trusted any men in my life.”

Andrew Rutter, mitigating, said: “Clearly an immediate custodial sentence is warranted in this case.

“He is deeply contrite and ashamed and he made the fullest and frankest of confessions.”
