Pervert jailed over child porn and animal sex images

A PERVERT caught with a stash of sickening child porn images when he took his computer into a repair shop has been jailed.

Patrick Franklin, 43, – classified as “posing a high risk of committing offences on children” by probation experts – also had a collection of extreme animal pornography which was discovered after he took his hard-drive into PC Pitstop in Hebburn in January.

Newcastle Crown Court heard when shopowner Paul Donnely realised what was on the computer, he called the police and Franklin was arrested.

He told officers he had downloaded the images of children being abused because he was “curious”.

Franklin pleaded guilty to nine charges of possessing indecent photographs of children, relating to 93 images and 20 movies.

He admitted two charges of possessing extreme pornography relating to 61 movies and 19 images of adult bestiality.

The charges all relate to January this year.

Franklin, of Westmorland Court, Hebburn, was already the subject of a sexual offences prevention order made by magistrates.

Judge David Wood jailed him for 12 months, banned him from working with children and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

The judge told him: “These are serious offences involving the abuse of young children who have to pose for these photographs, and also a number of very unpleasant images of adult bestiality.

“These offences, and the risk you pose, are far too great for anything other than a custodial sentence.”

David Combe, defending, said Franklin met a woman through a social networking site who had an interest in child pornography.

Mr Combe said: “She distributed the images to him.”

Mr Combe said Franklin had decided to get rid of the images by taking his computer into the repair shop.

Speaking after the case, Pc Paul Burrows, said: “The witness played a crucial part in this case. For that we thank him.

“For every image of child porn we found, there was a victim being abused.”
