Face of Rainhill man Kevin Geraghty jailed for 20 years over sex attacks
A PAEDOPHILE has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for a series of sickening attacks on two young girls.
Kevin Geraghty, from Stoney Lane in Rainhill, was found guilty of 28 charges under the Sexual Offences Act including indecent assault and rape.
In the 1970s and 80s he abused two victims from when they were little girls through to their teens. Decades later his victims came forward to tell detectives of their dreadful ordeal, prompting a police investigation.
Geraghty, 56, denied the offences, meaning the victims had to go through the agony of a trial before he was convicted.
At Liverpool Crown Court, Judge Mark Brown sentenced the boss of a carpet cleaning business to 16 years for rape and four years for the assault against the girls.
He was ordered to serve the sentences consecutively and was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Afterwards, Detective Sergeant Kathy Goodwin, said: “This complex and protracted investigation was, at times, a difficult enquiry for The Unity Team, which has ultimately brought about the lengthy prison sentence given to Geraghty.
“Geraghty’s conviction should serve as a reminder to other offenders who seek to sexually prey on children.
“The police will use every resource available to uncover this type of offending and will result in dangerous sex offenders going to prison for a very long time.
“While this sentence cannot undo the impact these crimes have had on his victims, I hope that knowing this outcome will offer them some comfort.
“I would like to thank the brave witnesses, the Crown Prosecution Service and the officers involved in this case.”
