Paedophile jailed

A former care worker caught in a transantlantic crackdown on internet pornography has been jailed for downloading indecent images of children.

Ted Meyer, 58, was arrested when police raided his remote home in the Northumberland hamlet of Catcleugh, near Hexham, and seized his computer.

Meyer – a residential social worker until April 2001 – admitted 12 charges of making indecent photographs of children and possessing indecent photographs of children. He was yesterday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with a two-year extended supervision order on his release.

Judge Beatrice Bolton, at Newcastle Crown Court, also banned him from working with children in future and put him on the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

Meyer was employed at a residential care home close to Newcastle run by Northumberland County Council until April 2001 and kept many of the sick images he downloaded in a file called `paedo’.
