Registered Sheffield paedophile caught with 250,000 indecent images of children

Police officers found thousands of sick images of children on a laptop computer belonging to a registered sex offender, a court heard.

They carried out a routine check on the Sheffield home of Robert Nixon, aged 33, who was already subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

More than a quarter of a million images were found on his laptop and police examined over 4,000 of them said prosecutor Ian West at Sheffield Crown Court.

The court heard Nixon, of Lupton Walk, Lowedges, was jailed for 26 months in 2008 for downloading and possessing indecent images and sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

Andrew Swaby, defending, said he fully co-operated with police and had not re-offended since his arrest.

Recorder Bernard Gateshill jailed Nixon for three years and told him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Former lifeguard jailed for sex assault on girl

FORMER lifeguard Robert Nixon has been jailed after sexually assaulting a girl and being found with large amounts of child pornography.

He worked as a lifeguard at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre but was suspended immediately when he was arrested in May.

Nixon (26), formerly of Humberston Fitties but recently living at a bail hostel, admitted sexually assaulting a girl under 13 between November 2006 and November last year.

He also admitted 17 offences of making indecent photographs of children and 25 offences of possessing indecent photographs of children.

James Hett, prosecuting at Grimsby Crown Court, said Nixon sexually assaulted the girl on four occasions.

The police were alerted and they later discovered that Nixon had been accessing and downloading indecent images of children.

Robert Underwood, mitigating, said Nixon was “repulsed” by what he had done and wanted to make efforts to change his ways.

He accepted he was sexually attracted to children and did not try to minimise the effect on the victims.

Nixon had no previous custody and previously spent 18 days in custody before being given bail.

Judge John Reddihough jailed him for two years and two months.

He told Nixon: “You have committed a number of offences, involving the abuse of children.”

The young girl Nixon sexually assaulted was left very upset by her ordeal and the indecent images represented indirect abuse of children.

“As long as people like you watch images like that, children around the world will continue to be abused and their whole lives often ruined,” said Judge Reddihough.

“You have to be punished for what you have done and the only appropriate way is by a sentence of imprisonment.”

Nixon was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and banned from working with children indefinitely.

He was made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order.
