Jailed over indecent images of children

A GRIMSBY man has been locked up for 12 months for possession of thousands of indecent images of children.

Timothy Richardson, 27, of Ethelstone Road, Grimsby, admitted making indecent images and possessing indecent images and videos in August last year.

Among the videos was a scene of sex with a female corpse, Grimsby Crown Court heard.

Sentencing Richardson, Judge Jeremy Baker said a custodial sentence was the only option to deter him from reoffending and others from doing the same.

Richardson was also placed on the sex offenders’ register and disqualified from working with children for 10 years.

Charlotte Baines, prosecuting, told how police officers visited Richardson’s home.

She said: “When he was asked about the contents of the files on his computer he told them ‘I just wanted to see what all this was about.'”

He admitted downloading images.

Police forensic experts discovered more than 10,000 images and 54 video clips.

Among them were images of the most serious category of indecent images. Some of them involved children, including babies.

For Richardson, Catarina Sjolin said her client was of previous good character.

She added that he had been open with police investigating the case.

She said: “He now fully understands that these children were victims and he had contributed to the market by downloading the images.”

The barrister said her client had not distributed the images or videos.

She said he had been curious about the content of the images and videos.

Miss Sjolin added: “He is a quiet man. He is ashamed to have brought his family to court.”
