A sex offender who downloaded around 70 indecent images of children will serve his sentence in the community.
Peter Sprenger (pic above), 33, of Shakespeare Road, Bedford, appeared at Bedford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to seven charges of making indecent images of children aged between 13 and 17-years-old.
Section seven of the Protection of Children Act 1978 defines a child as under 18-years-old.
In relation to such images, children are classified as under 18- years-old.
Sprenger was put on the sex offenders registerlast year after putting his hand up a woman’s skirt.
The court heard that in January, Sprenger had a visit from the sex offenders team and admitted to them that he had ‘fallen off the wagon’.
His computer was seized and police found 63 level one images which depict erotic posing, one level two image which shows sexual activity between children or solo masturbation by a child, one level three image which is classified as non-penetrative sexual activity between adults and children and one level four image which is penetrative sexual activity between children and adults.
There was some dispute from Sprenger’s solicitor Andrew Morton about the level four image and although he maintained that the children on all of the level one images were clothed, the prosecution noted that the type of ‘clothing’ was bikinis and beach wear.
Magistrates did not feel that their sentencing powers were sufficient and Sprenger was given unconditional bail to appear at Luton Crown Court later this month.
