A FORMER Christian Brother was given a suspended three-year sentence yesterday after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting three boys at Letterfrack Industrial School in Connemara (pic below) in the late 1960s.
In the first such case from that institution to come before the courts for sentencing, John McKenna (58), Wood Dale Green, Ballycullen, Dublin 14, yesterday apologised unconditionally at Galway Circuit Criminal Court to his victims and said he hoped his apology will help with their recovery.
McKenna, a former national school teacher who is now unemployed, relies on his friends and family for financial support.
At an earlier court sitting he stated that it was his intention to accept full responsibility for his actions and he did not wish to cause any further pain or trauma.
A psychologist’s report said it was unlikely McKenna would reoffend and it also stated he was a man who had felt deep remorse.
