Child porn man is jailed

A MIDDLE-aged man caught with repulsive pictures of child abuse told police it had been legal in other parts of the world until quite recently.

Jailing him, the Recorder of Cardiff, Nicholas Cooke QC, told Stanley Edwards, 54, that while it was true he was of clean character, never having been in trouble for any reason before, he clearly had an unhealthy interest in children and sex.

“There has to be an immediate prison sentence” he said.

Edwards, formerly of St Peter’s Close, Llanharan, but said to have moved to a new address following his arrest, had pleaded guilty to five charges of making indecent images of children and one of possessing them.

He also admitted one count of possessing extreme pornography – a charge representing 16 such images found on his computer.

The judge jailed him for 10 months.

Of the child porn pictures he admitted downloading, over 350 were of level four.

Level five is deemed to be the most serious.

“They are repulsive and expose children to significant danger,” the judge said.

“It is noteworthy that you sought to minimise the seriousness of it, saying the children were 100% consenting.

“You clearly have an interest in children and sex because you also said sexual intercourse between adults and children was legal in another country until five years ago.

“People must know that if they download this sort of material then they will go into custody when caught.”

Edwards will have his name put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the next 10 years.

Edwards’ computer equipment was ordered to be forfeited at the Cardiff Crown Court hearing.
