Bamber Bridge paedophile sentenced to jail

A paedophile who prayed on a pair of young siblings has been sentenced to more than a decade in jail after pleading guilty to numerous underage sex offences.

David Barber, 72, of Greenwood, Bamber Bridge, was sentenced yesterday at Preston Crown Court to 11 years in jail on multiple charges including rape, attempted rape, indecent assault and possession of indecent photographs featuring children.

The rapes, indecent assaults and attempted rapes were committed against two young Chorley brothers – aged 7 and 11 – between 2000 & 2004 after Barber gained access by befriending their parents. Police were first informed of the incidents in March 2011.

The additional child imagery charges were laid against Barber after a raid by police at his home in Bamber Bridge also in March of last year.

Detective Constable Louise Dutton, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit, said: “The devious way which Barber prayed on these two young innocent boys was simply cruel and purely evil.

“Both his victims and their parents – who he manipulated to gain access to the boys – have been left scarred by this extremely dangerous man. The victims have shown great courage in coming forward and reporting their abuse at this time.”
