Burnley pervert given community order for child porn stash

A RECLUSIVE pervert had a stash of more than 300 obscene child porn images, a court heard.

Burnley Crown Court heard how William Whitty, 43, had downloaded the haul from the internet, but made no comment when he was arrested and questioned by police.

Whitty was given a three-year community order with supervision, but was excused a sex offender group work programme or unpaid work because he was said to have issues with self-confidence and mental health.

The hearing was told that about 10 years ago, he had been a voluntary patient at a mental health hospital for a week, after suffering a drug-induced psychosis.

The defendant, of Holmes Street, Burnley, had admitted 10 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child, between April 2009 and January last year.

He also received a 12 week curfew, between 8pm and 6am.

Whitty was banned from working with children and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

He was also given a five-year sexual offences prevention order, prohibiting him from using any device capable of internet access, unless it has the capacity to retain and display the history of internet use and is made available, on request, for inspection by the police.
