A FORMER Reading bus driver jailed for life for child sex offences has died after being found battered in his prison cell.
Robert Coello, 44, who lived in Whitley’s Staverton Road at the time he committed the offences, died on Sunday night after doctors fought vainly for more than seven hours to save him.
Paedophile Coello, who worked for Reading Buses, was given a life sentence in August 2006 after admitting four counts of rape and 12 other sexual assaults against a schoolgirl. He denied another three rapes which were ordered to remain on the file.
Jailing him at Reading Crown Court, and ordering him to serve a minimum of seven years before being considered for parole, Judge Zoe Smith told Coello his offences were the “worst of their kind”.
He had served his sentence in a number of jails but was only transferred to Grendon Underwood, a category B psychiatric prison, six months ago. His body was found in pools of blood with massive head injuries in his cell on G-wing at 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon, and reports say the wounds were consistent with his being stamped on.
Coello was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital but was certified dead at 11.05pm Sunday.
A prisoner serving a life sentence has been found guilty of murdering Whitley child rapist Robert Coello while in jail.
Lee Robert Foye, 26, was convicted at Luton Crown Court today and given a further life sentence with a 31 year minimum tariff.
The court heard how Foye had killed 44-year-old Coello in his cell at HMP Grendon, in Buckinghamshire, on August 1, 2010.
