A FURNESS teacher who took photographs up the skirt of a girl pupil has been fined just £50-a-crime for a string of child porn offences.

The sentence has been branded hideously lenient by a child protection group.

Ian Thomas, of Neville Street, Ulverston, was fined £750.

He had been convicted of 13 counts of downloading child porn and two of taking indecent images of a child.

Ali Nixon, chairwoman of Cumbria Survivors of Sexual Abuse, said: “There seems to be no recognition of the psychological effects that sexual abuse has on a child.

“This lenient sentence laughs in the face of this serious and underrated offence.

“A prison sentence would perhaps be more appropriate.

“The leniency of this offence is hideous.”
