Cumbria pensioner jailed for child rapes

A pensioner who repeatedly raped a 12-year-old girl and sexually abused five other children in Cumbria has been jailed for 16 years.

Malcolm Lines, 70, of Holden Road, Salterbeck, abused two boys and four girls during the 1970s and 1980s.

He pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court to a total of 30 charges including rape, indecent assault and incitement to commit gross indecency.

Police probed Lines’ past after he was attacked by one of the victims in 2008.

The court heard that the man punched Lines’ in the face after going to his house to confront him about the abuse.

The victim told police his motive for the attack and detectives began an investigation, the court was told.

Judge Peter Hughes QC said Lines’ had “cast a dark shadow” over his victims which would affect them for the rest of their lives.
