PENSIONER David Mathias has been jailed after he sexually assaulted two girls.
The 68-year-old’s assaults have seriously affected both victims, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard yesterday.
Prosecutor Fiona Cortese said on one occasion Mathias sexually assaulted one of the girls before pulling down his underwear and telling her ‘it was her turn’ but she refused.
Mathias was arrested in November 2011 and admitted touching the girls under their clothes.
The court heard both girls have been left feeling anxious and nervous. One regularly relives what he did to her and when on her own, breaks down and starts crying.
Mathias, of Union Street, Leek, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to six charges of sexual assault of a child under 13 and one charge of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Paul Cliff, mitigating, said Mathias was frank with police and added the guilt has weighed heavily on him for several years. He added that the offences did not feature intimidation, coercion or force.
Jailing Mathias for 32 months, Judge Paul Glenn said: “This was a prolonged and premeditated course of action.”
Mathias will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.
