Tragic star’s dad jailed for child sex abuse
THE father of tragic Scots rock star Stuart Adamson was jailed for four years today for sexually abusing three children.
William Adamson, 67, previously pleaded guilty to three charges of abusing two girls and a boy, aged between seven and ten, from 1997 to 2003.
He was placed on the sex offenders’ register following his appearance at the High Court in Dunfermline in December last year. He had been released on bail until today.
Sentencing Adamson, from Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Carloway said the retired naval engineer’s crimes amounted to the “systematic abuse” of children.
He added: “The sentence must be of substantial imprisonment. It would have been six years but for the fact you pleaded guilty at the earliest possible stage.”
Stuart Adamson, who was lead singer in the band Big Country, was found hanged in a hotel in Hawaii more than two years ago.
The 43-year-old father-of-two, who was raised near Dunfermline, had fought a long battle against alcohol abuse.
Big Country had a string of hits in the 1980s.
