A PREDATORY paedophile who groomed and raped a schoolgirl before getting her pregnant, has been jailed for seven and a half years.
A court heard he could have been stopped from ever getting near children after an earlier conviction if it had not been for a blunder by social services.
William Munro, 46, of St Benedicts Close, St Helens, first groomed the girl when she was just 12, raped her within a year and corrupted her so much that she put up with his advances for years afterwards.
Liverpool crown court heard that, in 2002, she gave birth to Munro’s child.
The court was also told the defendant was known to the authorities for preying on young girls, after an earlier court case.
Michael Scholes, prosecuting, said: “Social services arranged for an assessment to be carried out, which said Munro was at a low risk of re-offending. This was an assessment which was, sadly, completely awry.”
Munro pleaded guilty to one charge of indecent assault, one of rape and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
