Man, 50, jailed for sex assaults on young girl

A MARKET pornography salesman has been jailed for 18 months for repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl.

Raymond Draper, 50, touched the girl under 13, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on three occasions.

It came to light when the girl told family members what had happened, said prosecutor Brian Hurst.

Draper, of Mansfield Avenue, Thornaby, denied the matters when he was interviewed by police, Teesside Crown Court was told.

He later admitted three counts of sexual assault on a girl under 13.

In July 2007 he was fined £500 for 10 offences of possessing adult pornographic videos for sale on a market stall.

He had other convictions dating as far back as the 1970s for drug offences, burglary, theft and handling stolen goods.

Robin Denny, defending, said: “He has fully accepted his guilt. These were very much isolated acts.”

Mr Denny added it went no further than touching.

He said Draper had feelings of inadequacy in his relationships with adult women.

Judge George Moorhouse jailed Draper for 18 months and gave him a 10-year sexual offences prevention order banning him from unsupervised contact with under-18s.

He will be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
