Predatory sex offender jailed for assaults on woman and 14 yr old schoolgirl in Gloucester

‘PREDATORY’ sex offender Steven Cafferkey has been jailed for molesting a woman and a 14-year-old.

Cafferkey, of Parkend Road, Gloucester, has spent much of the past 16 years in prison for similar attacks.

This time, the 51-year-old Irishman was sentenced to 28 months inside.

Judge William Hart told him: “You are undoubtedly a predatory sexual offender taking advantage of any situation at which you can offend.

“You seem to accept you don’t have the capacity to control your urges. You are someone that cannot be managed in the community.

“You pose a huge risk to both adult women and female children.”

Cafferkey received an eight-year sentence for three similar attacks in 1997.

He was then sent down for another four years in January 2005 and spent a lot of the four-year extension period that followed in jail after a conviction for trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence in Gloucester.

In mitigation, Jason Coulter said: “He is frank about his urges and that clearly is something of concern.

“He did not engineer the occasions when he was alone with the child – he found himself alone with her.

“This man, clearly, at the least is a sex pest viewed by others perhaps more dangerously.”

Mr Coulter said Cafferkey, who wants to return to Ireland after finishing his latest sentence, had learning disabilities which hampered his rehabilitation in the past.

He said: “He behaves inappropriately when he knows he should not.

“He was released from that sentence last year and relatively shortly after that he has got himself in trouble again.

“He knows he has got problems but he seems incapable of helping himself.”
