OAP jailed for ‘disgraceful catalogue’ of child sex abuse

A PENSIONER who sexually assaulted two young girls has been jailed for three and a half years.

Liverpool Crown Court Judge Brian Lewis called 71-year-old Robert Pedder’s offending a “disgraceful catalogue of sexual abuse.” Pedder, of Southport, pleaded guilty to four charges of indecent assault and eight offences of indecency with a child.

Paul Becker, prosecuting, said the sex abuse took place between October 1991 and October 1998 and his victims are now aged 18. Mr Becker said that, when they were between the ages of four or five and nine or 12, Pedder sexually assaulted them and forced them to perform sex acts on each other.

He said: “The defendant told the girls the reason for doing this was because he was not getting sex from his wife.”

Pedder, who has no previous convictions, had pleaded not guilty to four charges of rape against the same victims and one charge of sexual assault and these were ordered to lie on the file. Judge Lewis also ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and banned him from associating with any girl under 16.

He told Pedder: “What has been disclosed to the court is a disgraceful catalogue of sexual abuse of very young children
