Man admits taking indecent images

A man has admitted taking pictures of a teenage girl he had been alleged to have sexually abused.

Patrick John McMahon had been due to go on trial at Belfast Crown Court on Tuesday accused of sexually activity with a child and taking indecent pictures of her but defence lawyer Dennis Boyd asked for some of the charges to be put to him again.

McMahon, from India Street in south Belfast, then pleaded guilty to 14 charges of taking indecent photographs of the girl on a date between June 30 and July 25 2009.

Prosecuting lawyer Kate McKay told the court that given those pleas, she was applying to have the five charges of sexual activity with a child between 13 – 16-years-old “left on the books”.

Ordering pre-sentence reports to be compiled before he passes sentence later this month, His Honour Judge Kinney also ordered McMahon to sign the police sex offenders register before he left court on continuing bail.
