Pervert rugby player is jailed for sex crimes

A YOUNG rugby player has been given a jail sentence and barred from using social networking sites after pleading guilty to sex offences.

Strapping Newtownards man Royce McCullough pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting two females — including one girl who was under the age of 16.

At Downpatrick Crown Court last week, the 21-year-old also pleaded guilty to two charges of escaping police custody during February, 2011.

McCullough, from Ballyblack Road East, received a two year sentence in total — nine months to be served in jail and 15 months on licence.

The Co Down man has also been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years and a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) was imposed.

The judge barred McCullough from using Facebook, Bebo and other social networking sites.

He was also barred from working with children.

McCullough was told he could not deny police access at any time to his computers.

He received concurrent nine month jail sentences for each of the sex offences.

For escaping the lawful custody of a female PSNI officer on February 6 and for escaping from Bangor PSNI custody suite two days later, he received concurrent six month jail sentences.

McCullough’s old Bebo site was still online last week. It listed ‘no friends’.

His old profile states he loves playing rugby and that he’s scared of “nothing”.
