Man jailed for sex with girl, 13

A MAN who had sex with an underage girl in Blackpool – who later had his child – has been jailed for 32 months.

Jason Wise became friends with the girl, seven years his junior, and they had a physical relationship.

The girl gave birth at the age of 14 and blood tests showed Wise was the father.

The defendant, now aged 23, of Liverpool Road, Eccles, pleaded guilty to three offences of sexual activity with a child.

Mr Mark Lamberty, prosecuting, said a friendship and an association had developed between the girl and Wise. The offences occured in the Blackpool area.

The relationship developed into a sexual one. According to the girl, they had sex on at least three occasions.

Matters came to light when the girl complained to a teacher and her mother that she was pregnant.

Stating that Wise was a young man of previous good character, Mr Jeremy Lasker, defending, said it had all begun with a friendship.

“Over time they were attracted to each other.

“They became friendly and a relationship began and went on for several months

“She made him feel special and happier than he had ever been before.

“The defendant has had to wait a long time for the matters to come to court. He was 20 years old at the time.”

Judge Anthony Russell QC told the defendant in passing sentence: “Parliament has decided that offences such as this must be visited with much greater punishment than used to be the case. I have to be loyal to that decision of Parliament and apply the law.

“I accept you were genuinely in love with her. These are serious offences. It is a tragedy you are before the court, but I have to apply the law.”

Wise was told he will be on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
