FURY erupts as pervert who tried to snatch a schoolgirl was jailed for just 12 months

A BOGUS police officer was jailed for just a year yesterday for trying to abduct a schoolgirl.

Convicted sex offender Gary Brown was given the sentence despite the offence carrying up to seven years in prison.

As he was sentenced, the court heard he indecently assaulted two teenage girls in Basildon, Essex, in 1997.

The 11-year-old girl’s mother shouted “you are a f*****g animal” at the balding defendant as he was taken from the dock.

Detective Constable Mark Gladman said outside court: “We cannot believe it. He has a record of offences against children going back to 1993.

“The girl’s family are upset about this.”

Brown, 32, was convicted at Middlesex Guildhall crown court of attempted abduction as the girl waited to be collected in St John’s Wood, North London.

Brown, of Hainault, Essex denied trying to lure her away by pretending to be a Child Protection officer. A trader stepped in when he saw the child crying.
