“What would you do to a man looking at images of your child?”

A MAN who had more than 1,300 indecent images of children on his computer has avoided an immediate jail sentence.

A judge called 27-year-old Brandon Belanger’s viewing of the pictures “horrendous”.

Judge Paul Darlow, sitting at Plymouth Crown Court, said: “Anyone who has had to look in a professional capacity at these filthy images of very young children being molested will recognise that dead look in their eyes. This is going to remain with them for the rest of their lives. It is horrendous.

“I am told you are a hard-working man and a loving father. Give a moment’s thought to what you would do to a man looking at images of your child.”

Belanger, of Alexandra Road, Mutley, had earlier admitted six charges of possessing indecent images, two offences of making indecent images and three of possessing extreme pornographic images.

The court heard he had a total of 1,369 indecent images of children, some of them babies. They included nine images in the most severe category. The court heard the extreme pornography involved animals.

Alistair Verheijen, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said police executed a warrant at his home and seized his computer equipment.

He added Belanger immediately admitted viewing child abuse images

Mr Verheijen said he would then delete images.

He added that he had admitted sending some of the pictures to strangers, but there was no trace of how many images he had sent nor how serious they were.

Mackenzie Robinson, for Belanger, said there were very few live files and most had been deleted.

He added he had been open and honest with the police and those around him but would have to live with the shame of his offences.

Belanger was handed a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He will do a course treating internet sex offenders and will remain under the supervision of probation.
