Six months in jail for downloading child abuse images

A CHILD abuse images downloader from Burton has been jailed for six months after being caught with images depicting paedophile sex.

Police netted 30-year-old Gary Wilkinson as part of Operation Ore, a round-up of subscribers to the US child porn site Landslide.

Officers executed a search warrant at Wilkinson’s home in Burton in July last year and seized computer equipment.

Examination revealed a total of 664 indecent images of children, some of boys and girls under the age of 10. They included 18 at level four, the second most serious category, depicting sexual acts between adults and children.

Alexander Jacobs, prosecuting, told Stafford Crown Court yesterday that when first questioned, Wilkinson claimed his credit card had been used fraudulently to access the site, but a couple of hours later he owned up.

Wilkinson, of Barton Street, admitted 16 charges of making indecent images of children and one of possessing 648 images.

Judge John Shand also ordered Wilkinson to register as a sex offender for the next seven years and not to work with children for the next 10 years.

His release on licence was also extended to three years after the judge ruled Wilkinson presented “a sufficient risk to young people.”

Mr Jacobs said the offences had been committed between September, 1997, and July last year, when the search raid took place.

Martin Liddiard, defending, said Wilkinson had not made money or exchanged the images.
