Child sex attacker has 14 year sentence cut

A pervert handed a 14-year jail term for horrific sex attacks on children – including a two-year-old girl – had his sentence slashed by top judges.

Dangerous Christopher Hordell, 59, was caged at Wolverhampton Crown Court in November last year after admitting assault by penetration and sexual assault.

His two victims were a young schoolboy and a two-year-old girl. He repeatedly fondled and groped the boy and subjected the girl to sickening abuse while she was very young, Mr Justice Mitting told London’s Criminal Appeal Court.

Hordell, of Tithe Croft, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, at first “adamantly denied” the claims, but ultimately admitted his guilt. He had a record of committing indecent assaults against young boys dating back to the 1980s, the court heard.

Hordell’s case reached the Appeal Court as he challenged his sentence as over the top.

Mr Justice Mitting, sitting with Lord Justice Pitchford and Mr Justice MacDuff, said Hordell’s previous crimes were “of some antiquity” but acknowledged that his attack on the toddler was “particularly grave”.

However, the judge went on to reduce Hordell’s sentence to twelve and a half years, saying that insufficient credit had been given for his guilty pleas.

Hordell was recognised as a danger to children by the Crown Court judge and will serve an additional eight years on ‘extended licence’ in the community following his release
