Former minister is jailed for abuse
A FORMER Baptist minister has been jailed for more than three years after he admitted sexually abusing a child.
David McFeeters, 70, first attacked the girl at an address on Benbecula in the Western Isles when she was just eight. The abuse continued for three years.
At Stranraer Sheriff Court, Sheriff Kenneth Robb said former driving instructor McFeeters, of Billericay, had betrayed the trust of the girl, who is now 18.
A former Baptist minister has admitted a child abuse charge.
David McFeeters, 70, of Billericay, Essex, pled guilty to sexually assaulting a young girl on Benbecula between 2003 and 2006.
A not guilty plea to committing the same offence with a 12-year-old girl in Stranraer was accepted by the Crown at the town’s sheriff court.
Sentence was deferred and McFeeters was remanded in custody and placed on the sex offenders register.
The court was told the former minister and driving instructor knew he was pleading guilty to a very serious offence.
His lawyer told the court that matters were brought to the attention of the police after McFeeters’ wife died in 2011.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb deferred sentence until 27 August to allow for background reports to be compiled.
