Paignton paedophile given suspended sentence

A CONVICTED paedophile found in possession of more than 20,000 pornographic pictures and videos of children has been sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years.

Charles Wood, from St Michael’s Road in Paignton, pleaded guilty to 10 charges of making indecent photographs of children and one of possessing indecent images of children between March and November, 2012, when he appeared before Torbay Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 30.

During the hearing Wood, 55, admitted owning 672 level one photographs, 13 level two pictures, 63 level three images, 61 level four photographs and four level five pictures.

The possession charge also relates to owning 500 level one to level five indecent videos of children and a further 2,800 un-categorised movies and 17,000 un-categorised photographs of children.

At the time, magistrates told Wood that only the Crown Court could deal with him as his offences were so serious.

Wood appeared before Exeter Crown Court on June 26 and was sentenced to 12-month in prison suspended for two years and a two-year supervision order which includes a series of conditions restricting his movement and what he can and cannot do.

He was ordered to attend 45 sessions of a sex offenders rehabilitation course and pay £100 victim surcharge.

Wood will also be asked to sign the sex offenders register.
