PAEDOPHILE Robert Stanley has been jailed for six-and-a-half years after he indecently assaulted children.
The 52-year-old, pictured, abused his victims after grooming them, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard
Prosecutor Anthony Potter said Stanley committed a string of offences involving three girls over a number of years.
He said Stanley encouraged two of the girls to expose their breasts.
“It progressed to getting them to lift up their skirts,” said Mr Potter. “He graduated to indecent assaults.
“The girls would strip for him. He would tell them what to do.”
The court heard Stanley would give the girls cigarettes.
He performed a sex act with his first victim and then began touching her sexually.
The victim reported Stanley’s abuse in 2010.
The second victim came forward when she became aware other allegations had been made against Stanley.
She believed the abuse started when she was aged 12 or 13.
Stanley abused a third victim, some years later, by touching her over her clothing.
Two of the defendant’s computers, seized after his arrest, were found to contain indecent images of children.
Stanley, of Sunnybank, Middleport, pleaded guilty to nine charges of indecent assault, one count of sexual activity with a child and two offences of making indecent photographs of children.
Catherine O’Reilly, mitigating, said Stanley was of previous good character.
She added: “He feels remorseful and a terrible sense of guilt.
“He wants to engage with probation during his custodial sentence and undertake any courses he feels will help him in the future.”
Judge Paul Glenn said the making of indecent images demonstrates Stanley has a continuing interest in young girls.
The judge told Stanley: “This was a classic grooming operation.
“You played the first two victims off against each other.
“You encouraged these two girls to do things other adults would have plainly discouraged. You knew their ages.
“You were a married man at the time.”
Judge Glenn said there was a risk of Stanley committing further offences against children.
He added: “These were premeditated offences over a significant period of time.”
Stanley was made the subject of a 10-year sexual offences prevention order and will be on the sex offenders’ register for life. He will serve up to half the sentence in custody with the rest on licence.
