Burnley sports coach jailed for eight years for sex offences
A school sports coach from Lancashire has been jailed for eight years for child sex offences.
Glyn Thompson, 32, had admitted nine charges relating to a girl aged between 13 and 15, from January 2012 to April.
Thompson, of Padiham Road, Burnley, was jailed by a judge at Preston Crown Court.
Det Con Liz Owens said the coach at Stoneyholme Community Primary School in Burnley “groomed” his victim and put her through a “horrendous ordeal”.
He was also subjected to a sexual offences prevention order and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.
Police said Thompson was arrested on 4 July.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, which included four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child aged between 13-15 and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
After the hearing, Det Con Liz Owens of Lancashire Police said: “I am pleased with today’s sentence handed down to Thompson given the horrendous ordeal he put his young victim through.
“He took advantage of a young girl and groomed her over a long period of time.
“We will continue to work with other agencies to support her and hope that today’s sentence will bring her some closure.”
