A paedophile from a village on the outskirts of Halifax has been jailed for a total of 8 years for a string of sex offences against a schoolboy

Morrison’s supermarket night-shift worker Ken Moorhouse, aged 52 of Mixenden, near Halifax appeared last month at Bradford crown court to plead guilty to the following charges:

  1. Indecent assault on a boy who was aged under 14 years old

  2. Gross indecency with a boy who was aged under 14 years old

  3. Inciting a boy aged under 14 years old to commit an act of gross indecency

As well as being jailed, Moorhouse was placed on the sex offenders register for life

Jailed

A 52-year-old man who thought he had got away with abusing a young boy has been jailed 30 years later.

Ken Moorhouse’s victim was in court to see him locked up for a total of eight years after a judge said his offending had ruined the complainant’s life.

Moorhouse, of Brow Bottom Lane, Halifax, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two offences of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child and this week Recorder Nicholas Lumley QC said he had targeted the complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Moorhouse was in his early 20s when he began abusing the vulnerable youngster, but his victim had to bear “the terrible secret” for years.

Recorder Lumley noted that the police were only told about the allegations from the 1980s in March last year and he told Moorhouse: “So you were able to live your life as normal for 30 years.

“The victim impact statement prepared a few days ago shows with devastating clarity the profound impact that your conduct has had on (the complainant).”

Recorder Lumley said when Moorhouse first abused the boy he did not know whether he would get away with it, but when the youngster did not report it he did it again and again.

“In the intervening 30 years you must have thought that you had got away with it altogether…in the meantime his life has been ruined,” noted the judge.

As part of the sentence Moorhouse is now banned from having any future contact with the complainant and he will also have to register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life.

An indefinite sexual offences prevention order will also restrict Moorhouse’s contact with young people in the future.

“That is for the protection of others lest you decide to do this sort of thing again,” said the judge.
