A paedophile who threatened to take a 13-year-old girl’s virginity has been jailed for 27 months.

Dad-of-two Ralph Craven, 64, sexually assaulted three teenage schoolgirls at his home after giving them cannabis, cigarettes, and booze, a court heard.

The girls, aged 13, 14 and 15, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had visited his three-bedroom home in Bradford Road, Riddlesden, on numerous occasions, where he indecently assaulted them.

He kissed and groped his young victims in what The Recorder of Bradford Judge Roger Thomas QC termed ‘disgusting acts on your part.’

His offending came to light when one of his victim’s school pals alerted teachers and the girl confessed to what he had done to her.

It also emerged that Craven had a previous conviction for sexually assault on an eight-year-old girl in 1971 when he was 20 years old.

Prosecutor Matthew Bean told the court that on 14 November, last year, a friend of the 14 year old victim told a teacher at a local school of visits to Craven’s home, and she disclosed that the 13 year old girl had also been sexually assaulted there.

Mr Bean said:”The defendant had touched and kissed her and given her beer and cannabis, which she had never had before.”

She explained that in October, 2013, she was in Craven’s bedroom at 11am getting ready to go out with friends.

The defendant told her she ‘looked nice’ and told her she was ‘going to lose her virginity tonight’.

Mr Bean said the 13 and 14 year old girls returned at 10.30pm and watched a film with Craven, they smoked cannabis and drank Polish beer.

He went to bed with one of the girls and was cuddling her.

Craven squeezed the bottom and breasts of the other girl and kissed her on the lips after she disturbed them.

In November, 2013, the 15-year-old victim, who attended a different Keighley school the other victims, was at Craven’s home when he was going out to the pub

Bradford Crown Court heard Craven told her ‘You’d better not come near me when I have had a drink, otherwise I will touch your arse and tits.’

The defendant tried to force a kiss from her, but she pushed him away, cracking his head on a window.

Two of the girls made a victim personal statement. The 15 year old has taken to wearing baggy clothes to hide her figure and has had to sleep in her mother’s bed for three months.

The 14 year old complainant stated she no longer trusts older men and ‘feels uncomfortable in their presence.’

The court heard that her father blames her for being sexually assaulted.

Craven pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault on the three girls.

Mitigating Sophie Drake said Craven was a single dad who was left caring for two teenage sons when his alcoholic wife walked out on him five years before the offences took place.

“He is horrified that he has done these things to these children and he is deeply for what he has done,” said Miss Drake.

The court heard Craven has had threats from people since he admitted the sex assault charges.

Caging Craven, Judge Thomas told him:”They came to your house and you where therefore, without doubt, in a position of trust.

“You spoke in a disgusting way to them and spoke about taking her virginity, which you did not do.

“What you did to them in your house has had a far-reaching and adverse effect on them.”
